FOGEL PRAISED BY elGreenTimes
In its august 2011 edition, elGreenTimes, a free “green” newspaper published a review redacted by Ministry Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) of Guatemala about FOGEL’s commitment with the environment, the review quotes as follows:
With the hydrocarbon implementation in over a hundred of commercial refrigeration models, FOGEL opened its doors to a worldwide market achieving the goal of reduce the Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and Global Warming Potential (GWP)
They are known as ecological refrigerators and are manufactured by a Guatemalan company since 1981 that started building wooden boxes with ice blocks. Nowadays manufacture 13 product categories exported to 34 countries in America, The Caribbean and Africa, with key customers such as breweries, soft drink bottlers, pure water bottlers, food, dairy and ice cream producers.
International success began when FOGEL DE CENTROAMÉRICA, S.A. laboratories went through a reconversion of the R-134a making the path for the 4th generation of refrigerants, the hydrocarbons including the R 290 refrigerant to new refrigerator’s models.
Worldwide the use of hydrocarbon as refrigerant is still not a standard due to explosion risks, but the amount of hydrocarbon that FOGEL uses in its refrigerators is similar to the amount used in a regular lighter, and does not represent any hazard according to several tests conducted by FOGEL. Edwin Morales, engineer in charge of the ozone specialized technical unit of the MARN, says that “support has been given to FOGEL projects of reconversion of refrigerants, and a new project for reconversion of substances in other production lines is intended as a proposal to the Montreal Protocol Executive Committee.
The Montreal Protocol Secretary, international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer, shown interest in nominating FOGEL this year as one of the companies with the highest environmental responsibility worldwide. In September 2010 FOGEL was recognized in the InterBEV Innovations Award as one of the best four projects of sustainable initiatives. “Even though we didn’t win, is a privilege for us to be in the best four projects of sustainability with other world class industries” was expressed by FOGEL.
“We are very committed with the environment and thanks to CentraRSE’s guidance FOGEL is recognized nationally as a company with good CSR practices”
