Our History

FOGEL was founded in 1899 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Mr. William Fogel. For over one hundred years, FOGEL has been one of the pioneer companies in the world inasmuch as design and manufacturing of commercial refrigeration equipment.

In 1967, FOGEL expands its operations to Nicaragua and, through a joint venture with other local investors, FOGELSA is created, and becomes the first company of Fogel Group Central America. In no time, FOGELSA develops into one of the leading manufacturers of commercial refrigeration equipment in the region.

In 1981, FOGEL GROUP relocates its operations to Guatemala where Refrigeradores de Guatemala, Sociedad Anónima, (better known as REFRIGUA) is created.

Between 2006 and early 2007, the factory in Guatemala grows at an accelerated pace, increasing its workforce from 500 to over 700 employees and its installed production capacity from 60,000 to 84,000 units per year.  In 2007, the company officially changes its name from Refrigeradores de Guatemala, S.A. to FOGEL DE CENTROAMERICA, S.A. as part of a commercial strategy to align the company name to its recognized FOGEL brand.

Also in 2007, FOGEL GROUP is faced with meeting the growing demand for commercial refrigerators in the Andean region of South America, and therefore decides to open a new factory in Cali, Colombia, called FOGEL ANDINA, with an initial production capacity of 12,000 units per year, which has recently increased to over 36,000 units per year.

FOGEL’s customers are breweries and soft drink bottlers, non carbonated drink companies like isotonic drinks and pure water bottlers, dairy and ice cream producers, as well as distributors and supermarket chains in over 30 countries. Currently FOGEL produces more than 120 different models, with over 250 different versions to satisfy the diverse requirements of the markets where  we are present.
